Reception accorded to Bangladesh tri-service contingent in New Delhi

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today accorded a reception to the 122-member tri-service contingent from Bangladesh which will take part in the grand Republic Day parade of India on January 26.

The contingent, led by Colonel Md Mohatasim Haider Chowdhury, has been drawn from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force, said a Bangladesh’s New Delhi mission press release received here today.

This is for the first time that any foreign military contingent has been invited to participate in the prestigious National Parade at Rajpath in central Delhi.

“We feel proud to be invited to participate in the parade. It is a great honour,” Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran said at the reception held in the sprawling lawn of his official residence, Bangladesh House.

The participation of military contingent is more significant because it comes ahead of the celebration of the 50 years of Bangladesh independence and establishment of Indo-Bangladesh diplomatic relations in the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The High Commissioner recalled the all-out support that India had extended to Bangladesh during the Liberation War in 1971.

The Bangladesh contingent will carry forward the legacy of the glorious War of Liberation in 1971 and the brave freedom fighters.

Defence Adviser Brigadier General Md Abul Kalam Azad and the contingent leader also spoke at the function.
