14 more test COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) – Fourteen more people, including three female students of Rangpur Medical College (RpMC), were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive in Rangpur division today.

Health officials said the 14 new cases were reported today after diagnosing 247 samples at the daily infection rate of 5.67 percent in the division where the infection rate remained below 10 percent during the last more than five weeks..

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday, 3.19 percent on Tuesday and 4.64 percent on Monday last in the division.

Among the 14 new patients diagnosed today, eight including four female students of RpMC residing at its ladies hostel were reported positive after diagnosing a total of 153 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at RpMC in Rangpur city.

“The new eight COVID-19 infected patients include six from Rangpur and two from Gaibandha districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

The three infected medical students of RpMC are Maria Kibtia, 21, Amrin Jahan, 21, and Mnza Waheda, 23.

On the other hand, six new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The six new COVID-19 patients include five from Dinajpur and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain said after completing the testing process at 6:55 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,695 as 14 new positive cases were reported today in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,695 patients stands at 3,999 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,503 in Thakurgaon, 4,659 in Dinajpur and 1,456 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
