One-lakh samples for COVID-19 tested in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – The two COVID-19 Laboratories have so far tested one lakh and 118 collected samples of suspected coronavirus patients and diagnosed a total of 15,656 infected patients in Rangpur division.

“The average infection rate currently stands at 15.63 percent in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

During the last more than one month period, the daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below 10 percent in the division where the average recovery rate and causality rate also continued to decline during the period.

“Only nine new patients were reported after testing of 181 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 4.97 percent on Wednesday,” he said.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 3.19 percent on Tuesday, 4.64 percent on Monday, 6.79 percent on Sunday, 2.92 percent on Saturday, 9.57 percent on Friday, 8.23 percent on Thursday last in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the total 15,652 patients stands at 3,988 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,322 in Nilphamari, 960 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,637 in Dinajpur and 1,450 in Gaibandha districts.

“Meanwhile, the number of healed patients rose to 14,785 as 18 more people cured on Wednesday at the average recovery rate of 94.46 percent,” said Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali.

The average recovery rate of 94.46 percent is currently about 6.04 times higher than the average infection rate of 15.63 percent in the division.

The 14,785 recovered patients include 3,573 of Rangpur, 748 of Panchagarh, 1,287 of Nilphamari, 941 of Lalmonirhat, 956 of Kurigram, 1,406 of Thakurgaon, 4,457 of Dinajpur and 1,417 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, the number of fatalities remained steady at 302 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Wednesday, he said.

The district-wise break-up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division,” Dr. Ali said.

Among the total 15,652 COVID-19 infected patients, 35 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,785 patients and 302 deaths while 530 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,519 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 91,035 released and 3,484 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu suggested people to wear masks and abide by the health directives to remain safe from the deadly virus.
