Proposed pilot route to be extended up to Kanchpur: Taposh

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)
Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said the proposed pilot
route under Bus Route Rationalisation Programme will be extended up to
Kanchpur.

“Earlier we had taken decision to start the pilot route from
Ghatarchar to Motijheel. But after starting our work with that goal,
we have seen that if we select the route from Ghatarchar to Motijheel,
it may not be fruitful. So we have decided to extend the periphery of
the pilot route up to Kanchpur,” he said.

Taposh, who is also the chief of the Bus Route Rationalisation
Committee, said these to newsmen after emerging from the 15th meeting
of the committee at Nagar Bhaban this afternoon.

The DSCC mayor said primarily they have decided to allocate Taka 100
crore to implement the bus route franchisee and informal talks have
been held with Bangladesh Bank to give soft loans from this allocation
to bus owners to modernize their vehicles.

“We will formulate policy to decide the way buses will run in this
route, how many buses will run, number of companies to be involved and
how the income will be distributed. Dhaka Transport Co-ordination
Authority” (DTCA) would formulate a draft of that policy within next
two weeks after holding talks with the stakeholders,” Taposh added.

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Dhaka
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Road
Transport Authority Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder and Bangladesh Road
Transport Corporation Chairman Md Ehsan-E-Elahi were present at the
meeting, among others.
