Cent percent VAT return done through online in Cumilla
DHAKA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – The taxpayers at Cumilla Commissionerate are
gradually showing their interest to submit their VAT returns through online
due to the COVID-19 pandemic as almost cent percent returns were submitted
there through online in December.
Out of the submitted 9,111 returns in December, the taxpayers submitted
some 9075 VAT returns through online while the rest 35 returns were submitted
manually.
Talking to BSS, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Commissioner
Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury said they are motivating the businesses to
submit returns through online during this pandemic period.
“The VAT officials have taken up as a challenge the task of bringing the
taxpayers under online platform to further ease the environment of business.
We’re getting its results since the taxpayers are convinced of the facility
for receiving online registration and submission of returns,” he added.
The official said the Cumilla Commissionerate has taken a plan to remain
ahead of other Commissionerates in terms of submitting online returns and in
continuation of this the Cumilla Commissionerate bagged the top position for
the 5th consecutive year in submitting online returns.
The average submission of online returns under 12 Commissionerates of the
NBR is 38 percent whereas the rate of submission of online returns at Cumilla
Commissionerate is almost cent percent.
Belal also opined that through submission of VAT returns, the businessmen
will be benefitted on one hand while the scope for VAT evasion will be
reduced on the other hand.
