Rajshahi division records 58 more COVID-19 cases

RAJSHAHI, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi division recorded 58 more new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours till Sunday evening, raising its number to 24,970.

However, the new daily infection figure is the highest one compared to the previous couple of days, said the health department sources.

Of the infected patients, 23,062 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with a significant 49 new recoveries found during the time, they said.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 381 including 238 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with one fatality reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 42 cases were detected in Bogura followed by five in Pabna, three each in Rajshahi city and Naogaon, two each in Natore and Sirajgaonj and one in Chapainawabganj.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,913 in Rajshahi including 4,428 in its city, 819 in Chapainawabganj, 1,581 in Naogaon, 1,222 in Natore, 1,343 in Joypurhat, 9,747 in Bogura, 2,695 in Sirajganj and 1,650 in Pabna.

A number of 2,915 identified patients were undergoing treatment at designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,384 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,623 have, by now, been released.

On the other hand, 100 more persons have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 117 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 65,009 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 63,479 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on a 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain at home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
