JS committee discusses on modernization of meteorology department

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2021 (BSS) – The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Defence at its 12th meeting today discussed on the steps undertaken for modernization of the meteorological department.

The committee has also recommended for appointing an Air Force official at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department under deputation, according to the meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with committee chairman Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan in the chair.

Committee members Muhammad Faruque Khan, M Illius Uddin Mollah, M Motahar Hossen, M Nasir Uddin and Nahid Ijahar Khan were also attended the meeting.

In the meeting, they discussed on strengthening of information services and precautionary weather forecast messages under Bangladesh regional meteorology and climate service project (component-A).

“Modernization and better supervision of the project have also been stressed at the meeting,” the parliament release added.

Defence Secretary Dr M Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Air Force Chief (administration) ABM M Abul Bashar, Rear Admiral Mohammad Mainul Haq of Bangladesh Navy, Major General Ibne Fazal Shaikhuzzaman, Brigadier General M Rafiqul Islam, and other concerned defense ministry high officials,among others, attended the meeting.
