COVID-19 cases cross 15,400 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 5, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has crossed the 15,400 marks in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate of the deadly virus continues to decline in recent weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,415 in the division with 21 more infections reported on Monday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 21 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 221 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Monday at the daily infection rate of 9.50 percent.

“The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently almost during the last two weeks in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 4.02 percent on Sunday, 3.23 percent on Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday, 8.87 percent on Thursday, 4.79 percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday and 7.98 percent on Sunday last.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,415 patients stands at 3,934 in Rangpur, 773 in Panchagarh, 1,310 in Nilphamari, 956 in Lalmonirhat, 1,000 in Kurigram, 1,484 in Thakurgaon, 4,524 in Dinajpur and 1,434 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 96,395 collected samples were tested in the division till Monday, and of them, 15,415 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 15.99 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 14,425 with the recovery of 50 more infected people in the division on Monday at the average recovery rate of about 93.58 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate of 15.99 percent is currently 5.85 times less that the recovery rate of 93.58 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 14,425 recovered patients include 3,459 of Rangpur, 730 of Panchagarh, 1,276 of Nilphamari, 930 of Lalmonirhat, 949 of Kurigram, 1,376 of Thakurgaon, 4,296 of Dinajpur and 1,399 of Gaibandha districts.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 296 in the division with no more deaths reported on Monday.

“The district-wise break up of the 296 fatalities stands at 69 in Rangpur, 107 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 15 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate stands at around 1.92 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,415 COVID-19 patients, 33 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,425 patients and 296 deaths while 661 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the COVID-19 infection rate continues to decline in all eight districts of Rangpur division.
