Daily COVID-19 infection rate declining in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 31, 2020 (BSS) – The daily infection rate of coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to decline consistently in all eight districts of Rangpur division in recent weeks bringing some relief to common people.

Health officials said only nine people were reported coronavirus positive after testing 188 collected samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur division at the daily infection rate of 4.79 percent on Wednesday.

Similarly, the daily infection rates were 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday, 7.98 percent on Sunday, 11.69 percent on Saturday, 3.85 percent on Friday and 10.10 percent on Thursday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 95,410 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 15,341 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.08 percent.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,341 patients stands at 3,919 in Rangpur, 766 in Panchagarh, 1,307 in Nilphamari, 954 in Lalmonirhat, 996 in Kurigram, 1,479 in Thakurgaon, 4,488 in Dinajpur and 1,4232 in Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,250 with the healing of 50 more infected people on Wednesday with an average recovery rate of 92.89 percent in the division.

At present, the 14,250 recovered patients include 3,415 of Rangpur, 727 of Panchagarh, 1,264 of Nilphamari, 923 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,369 of Thakurgaon, 4,243 of Dinajpur and 1,381 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently about 5.78 times higher than the average infection rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities climbed to 292 in the division with one more death reported from Dinajpur on Wednesday.

“The district-wise break up of the 292 fatalities stands at 68 in Rangpur, 104 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 15 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at around 1.90 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,341 COVID-19 infected patients, 37 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,250 patients and 292 deaths while 762 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 93,118 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 88,981 released and 4,137 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the daily infection rate continues declining consistently in recent weeks across Rangpur division.

“The situation might improve further if everyone sincerely wears masks while remaining outside strictly abiding by the health directives to remain safe and keep others secure from COVID-19 infection,” he said.
