Razzaque for delivering high-yielding varieties of crops to farmers

DHAKA, Dec 19, 2020 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur
Razzaque, MP, today called for delivering high yielding varieties of
crops and new technologies to farmers for ensuring the country’s food
security by tackling the challenges of declining arable land,
population growth and impact of climate change.

“Productivity of many crops is stable. That is why very high
yielding varieties of crops have to be invented through research. Many
high yielding varieties of crops, including Bri-87 and Bina-16, and
new technologies have already been developed. If all the bodies of the
Ministry of Agriculture can take these varieties and technologies to
the farmers quickly, the productivity of crop will increase,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a webinar titled
‘Eighth Five-Year Plan: Review on Final Draft on Safe Food and
Nutrition Security’ organized by Bangladesh Agricultural Economist
Association (BAEA).

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP, was present there as special guest.

BAEA president and former senior secretary of the prime minister’s
office Sajjadul Hasan presided over the webinar.
