Govt to procure 80,000 tons fertilizer

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved three separate proposals from the Ministry of Industries for procuring 80,000 metric tons of fertilizer.

The approval came from the 35th meeting of the CCGP in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 9th lot at a cost of around Taka 66.87 crore.

Besides, the BCIC will procure 25,000 metric tons of bulk prield (optional) urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar under the 9th lot with an expenditure of around Taka 55.80 crore while the BCIC will procure another 25,000 metric tons of bulk prield (optional) urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) under the 11th lot with a cost of around Taka 56.70 crore.

The CCGP meeting gave nod to another proposal from the Power Division to appoint NRECA International, USA to implement the Geographic Information System at the Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd (NESCO) areas under the Technical Assistance for Bangladesh Power Sector Development and Capacity Building Project with Taka 42.57 crore.

Apart from this, the meeting approved another proposal for procuring 2,900 KM 11kv overhead insulated conductor from the BRB Cable Industries Ltd for the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB).

Earlier, the 26th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in this year was held virtually also with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting approved a proposal for following the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for purchasing corrugated iron sheet worth Taka 75 crore for the Department of Disaster Management.
