Bangladesh, India ink seven MoUs as Hasina-Modi summit starts

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh and India today signed seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on different issues in Dhaka as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina began talks with her counterpart in New Delhi Narendra Modi using the virtual platform, officials said.

“Concerned officials signed the MoUs on behalf of Bangladesh while Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram K Doraiswami inked them on his country’s behalf,” a foreign ministry official familiar with the development said.

He named the deals as: Framework of Understanding on cooperation in hydrocarbon sector, framework agreement on “high impact community development projects, protocol on trans-boundary elephant conservation, MoU on supply of equipment and improvement of garbage/solid waste disposal ground in Barishal City Corporation, MoU on cooperation in the field of agriculture, MoU between the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum,, Dhaka and National Museum, New Delhi, terms of reference of India-Bangladesh CEOs Forum.

The spokesman said agriculture minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, state minister for cultural affairs Khalid Hossain and foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen witnessed the event at the state guest house Padma, shortly before premiers of the two countries joined their virtual summit from their respective offices.

Officials earlier said the two neighbours could sign four MoUs while Bangladesh foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen later said official level talks were underway to sign as high as nine such deals.
