6 get life imprisonment for murder in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS)- A trial court here today convicted six persons, including a woman, and sentenced them to suffer life in prison with labour for killing a person in the district over 15 years back.

Divisional Special Judge Ismat Ara found all of them guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of them.

The convicts were identified as Dulal Uddin, his wife Minara Khatun, Muhammad Mithu, Muhammad Tota, Ranju Babu and Muhammad Bulbul. All of them are members of a single family at Alokchhatra village under Paba Upazila in Rajshahi district, court sources said.

In addition to the life sentence, convicts Tota and Mithu were fined Taka 50,000 each, while the rest four others fined Taka 10,000 each.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused in gang armed with lethal weapons beat their co-villager Saidur Rahman, 30, to death on the spot at the same Alokchhatra village in broad daylight on July 19, 2005.

Mother of the victim Sufiya Khatun had lodged a case with Paba Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges accusing them on October 17 of the same year.

After examining recorded depositions of 25 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the court delivered the verdict this afternoon.

Special Public Prosecutor Shafiqul Islam conducted the case on behalf of the state, while Advocate Ekramul Haque defended the accused.
