Govt officials across country protest vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2020 (BSS) – Government officials across the country
today protested the vandalism of an under construction sculpture of
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia on
December 5.

As part of a coordinated protest programme, the officials staged
demonstrations, held rallies and formed human chains with the slogan
‘Jatir Pitar Sanmank, Rakhbo Mora Amlan (We will uphold the dignity of
father of the nation)’ and demanded exemplary punishment for those who
were involved in vandalizing the sculpture.

In Gopalganj, officials under the banner of Government
Officials-Employees Forum held a meeting at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni
Auditorium at 10.30am, protesting the vandalism of the sculpture of
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and demanding
punishment for the perpetrators.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shahida Sultana presided over
the meeting which was attended by hundreds of government officials and
employees.

Besides, a protest rally was held at Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj
with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jubayer Rahman Rashed in the chair.

Officials of Tungipara, Kotalipara and Kashiani upazilas of
Gopalganj district also held similar protest programmes demanding
punishment for the culprits of vandalizing Bangabandhu’s sculpture.

Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce formed a human chain in front of
Gopalganj Press Club at 11.30am protesting the sculpture vandalism.

In Kushtia, a protest rally was held in front of Bangabandhu’s
mural on DC office premises at 10am, protesting the vandalism of the
sculpture of Bangabandhu and demanding punishment of the perpetrators.

Secretary of the Water Resources Ministry Kabir Bin Anwar and
Kushtia DC Md Aslam Hossain were present at the rally which was
attended by the government officials of all levels.

In Barishal, divisional and district administrations jointly
brought out a procession from in front of the circuit house at 10.30
am, protesting the vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture.

Barishal Divisional Commissioner Amitav Sarker, Metropolitan Police
Commissioner Shahabuddin Khan, DC SM Ajiyor Rahman, Senior District
and Session Judge Rafiqul Islam and Superintendent of Police Saiful
Islam joined the procession which was ended on Town Hall premises
after parading main streets of the city.

In Bogura, the government officials of all upazilas of the district
held a protest rallies across the district protesting the vandalism of
Bangabandhu’s sculpture. Bogura DC Md Ziaul Hoque presided over a
protest rally at Zila Parishad Auditorium in the sadar upazila of the
district.

In Noakhali, the district administration of Noakhali organized a
discussion and formed a human chain protesting the demolition of
Bangabandhu’s sculpture.

In the morning, the human chain was formed in front of DC office.
Later, the discussion was held at Noakhali DC’s conference room with
Additional Deputy Commissioner (overall) Israt Sadmin in the chair. DC
Mohammed Khurshed Alam Khan addressed the discussion, among others.

In Jashore, the government officials of the Jashore district formed
a human chain at Bangabandhu’s mural and Daratana Bhairab Chattor area
of Bakul Tola in the district at 10 am, protesting the vandalism of
sculpture of the Father of the Nation.

Jashore DC Tamijul Islam Khan presided over the human chain joined
by hundreds of officials and employees.

In Tangail, a protest rally was held on the premises of Shaheed
Smirity Poura Udyan on vandalism of the under construction sculpture
of Bangabandhu in Kushtia. Tangail DC Dr Ataul Gani presided over the
rally attended the government officials of all levels of the district.

In Habiganj, the government officials of the district organized a
rally protesting the demolition of Bangabandhu’s sculpture. Habiganj
DC Mohammad Qamrul Hasan presided over the rally.

Besides, the officials of Magura, Nilphamari, Jhalakathi,
Jhenaidah, Feni, Barguna, Narail, Bhola, Pirojpur, Bandarban and
Narsingdi districts also organized similar programmes protesting the
vandalism of the under construction sculpture of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
