Char areas will be illuminated within Mujib Barsha: Nasrul

DHAKA, Dec 8, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said char or off-grid areas will be illuminated by the Mujib Barsha.

“Currently 99 percent people of the country are getting electricity facility. Distribution companies will have to go to the people with services,” he said inaugurating installation of solar home system at Hatibandha upazila at a virtual programme.

The state minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led government wants to reach balanced development to every corner of the country.

He said distribution companies have to play more responsibility to ensure services to the people’s door steps and dispatch inform quickly to their customers.

Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) Limited has undertaken the project to install solar home system in off-grid char areas of the upazila in Lalmanirhat district.

The NESCO will bring 12 chars with 4,521 consumers under solar home system at a cost of Taka 10.10 crore.

Chaired by NESCO Managing Director Zakiul Islam, the programme was also virtually addressed, by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, Member of Parliament BirMuktijoddha Md Motahar Hossain, Power Secretary Md Habibur Rahman and NESCO chairman AKM Humayun Kabir.
