Drive against rice hoarding going on in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 20, 2017 (BSS) – Five monitoring teams led by Additional District Magistrate and Additional Deputy Commissioner of are conducting drives against hoarding of rice in the city and district.

The monitoring teams conducted several operations at different rice mills and wholesale kitchen markets in the city and district during the drives that began on Sunday.

“The monitoring team did not found any stock of rice as well as irregularities during the drives at different rice mills in Labonchara, Rupsha and Daulatpur areas in the city in the last four days,” ADC (general) Zahangir Hossain said.

District administration sources said prices of rice started coming down by Taka 3-5 per kg from Tuesday.

The prices of rice including Minicate and Nazirshail are in falling trend as the government launched the OMS service of rice across the country on Sunday, the sources said.

While talking to BSS, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan said, “Action will be taken against traders and millers if anyone is found involved in creating artificial crisis of rice by hoarding rice.”

As per directive of the government Khulna District Administration has formed five monitoring teams on Thursday, he said, adding that the teams are monitoring rice mills and kitchen markets every day.
