Ambassador of Spain calls on Speaker

DHAKA, Dec 2, 2020 (BSS) – Ambassador of Spain Francisco De Asis Benitez Salastoday today paid a courtesy call on Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office.

During the meeting, they discussed about the development of bilateral relations, formation of parliamentary friendship group, climate change, economic and social development of Bangladesh, the overall global situation during the coronavirus outbreak and women’s empowerment in Bangladesh, a handout said here today.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that in the neo-normal world that emerged during the coronavirus pandemic, mutual support and coordination of different countries is very important.

She also said, experiences need to be exchanged between different countries on what to do to keep the education activities going while keeping themselves safe, helping the unemployed due to unemployment.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Francisco De Asis Benitez Salas praised the efforts of the Bangladesh government to keep the economy afloat amid this global pandemic, it added.

Referring to the long-standing friendship between Bangladesh and Spain, Ambassador Francisco said that this friendship could be further strengthened by forming a parliamentary friendship group.

Exchanging experiences in parliamentary activities will develop the bilateral relations, he added.

At the same time, the Speaker expressed his strong hope to work together for the development of parliamentary relations between Bangladesh and Spain.

The Speaker went on saying, climate change is a global problem.

The parliaments of different countries have to play a joint role in resolving this crisis and implementing the agendas, she added.

The Ambassador expressed hope about making constructive concerted efforts to address the climate crisis at this time.

Dr Chaudhury said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken appropriate initiatives in formulating various laws and policies in the interest of women’s empowerment and their overall development.

At the same time, the Ambassador appreciated the participation and empowerment of women in all fields including politics in Bangladesh.
