DHAKA, Dec 2, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) backed Blue Panel teachers of Dhaka University (DU) has condemned the remarks of Hefazat-e-Islam’s leaders opposing for installation of sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In a written statement issued today, signed by its acting convener Dr Abdus Samad, university teachers of the panel demanded exemplary punishment of Hefazat-e-Islam’s Ameer Junaid Babungari and Joint-Secretary Mamunul Haque terming them as anti-liberation forces and fundamentalists.

Following a meeting of blue panel on Monday at the auditorium of university’s Faculty of Business Studies, they issued the statement here today.

In the statement, they expressed deep concern as a religious fundamentalist group has recently involved with a conspiracy to destabilize the country like previous times by making religiously provocative and misleading statements centering the construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture at capital’s Dholaipar.

“On the eve of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of country’s independence, the motives of such arrogant extremists behind making such remarks are very clear,” it added.

In the name of opposing sculpture, their main goal is to humiliate the country’s architect Bangabandhu and to disrupt the present peaceful political environment as well as to prevent the next generation from knowing the history of the great leader and the liberation war, said the statement.

They also urged the government to take strict legal action against such extremist fundamentalist groups for insulting the Bangabandhu in the name of opposing sculpture.

Sculpture is a very ancient art form which has been in practice since the early days of civilization and many sculptures and murals have been installed in Bangladesh presenting the history and tradition of great independence, read the statement.
