Prof Arefin mourns death of noted actor Aly Zaker

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) former Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey Padak-winning cultural personality and noted actor Aly Zaker.

In a condolence message, he said the death of freedom fighter and drama personality Aly Zaker created a vacuum in the country’s cultural arena, which will not be filled easily.

Prof Arefin, also chairman of the board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), said Aly Zaker played an important role in popularizing drama in independent Bangladesh.

The celebrated personality involved himself with the country’s Liberation War in different ways under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he added.

The former vice-chancellor of DU said Zaker’s contribution to the Great Liberation War and the country’s art and culture arena will always be remembered.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul
and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

A ‘shabdasainik’ of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, thespian Aly Zaker breathed his last early today while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital here at the age of 76.
