Quader urges government to consider tuition fees of students during COVID-19

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 19, 2020 (BSS) – Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader today urged the government to consider the tuition fees at the education institutes during the corona virus pandemic.

“The education institutes have remained closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, but the tuition fees are being realized by the institutes during this time, “ he said while addressing the closing session of the special tenth session of the eleventh Jatiya Sangsad on the occasion of the Mujib Borsho in the House here.

The education institutes throughout the country still remain shut down and employment of huge number of people have been affected due to corona virus since March, he said, adding that while the government is financing all the schools and colleges. “But tuition fees of the students are not being exempted, ” he said..

Calling the government to reopen the schools and colleges, the deputy leader said where all the public and private establishments remain open, so the education institutes should to be opened by the government.

The opposition leader also urged the government to nationalize the Ebtedaye Madrasha education as the Madrasha education system has been unified with the general education system.

“Although the government has unified the Madrasha education system with the general education system, but the Ebtedaye or primary section of the Madrasha has not been brought under government facilities, “ he added.

Expressing concern over the intensity of COVID-19 pandemic, the opposition leader said the viral infection is increasing and death rate is also increasing. Under the situation he urged the government to expand the treatment facilities to the public hospitals, he added.

On the price hike of the essentials, GM Quader said country’s potato production was over one lakh tonnes against its demand for 80 lakh tonnes. He said a certain number of traders allegedly have created shortfall in the potato market by exporting huge quantity of potatoes to the neighboring country.
