JS passes Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill 2020

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 18, 2020 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad today passed the Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill 2020.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

While placing the bill, Dr Dipu Moni said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much conscious for development of the haor region and that’s why the government has taken an initiative to set up university in the region.

The enrollment in technical education in the country is now reaches to 17 per cent which was only 1 percent before.

Earlier, the ‘Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill 2020’ was placed in Parliament on September 7, 2020 allowing the authorities concerned to establish one more science and technology university in the country.

The proposed law was formulated following the laws of other science and technology universities.

With the approval of the draft law for the Sunamganj Science and Technology University. the number of science and technology universities stands at 20. Of them, 19 are in operation.

Besides, the parliamentary standing committee report on Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board Bill 2020 was also placed in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Abdus Sobhan Mia MP of Madaripur-3 placed the committee report on behalf of the Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Education Ministry Fazley Hossen Badsha.
