France beat Uruguay 2-0 in World Cup 2018
DHAKA, July 06, 2018 (BSS) – Unbeaten France marched on as they hardly had to sweat by beating Uruguay 2-0 goals to storm into the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup as this quarterfinal match was held on Friday at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Russia.
As expected, it was France who shot into lead in the 40th minutes of the proceedings.
Antoine Griezmann’s sent a perfect cross from a free kick inside the Uruguay defensive box and French defender Varane who plays for Real Madrid, was there to jump over the rival defender to nod it brilliantly past goalkeeper Muslera to make the score line read 1-0.
In the 61st minutes of the proceedings, France went further ahead in a comical error committed by Muslera under the bar. Atletico Madrid’s star striker Antoine Griezmann took a thunderous shot, French GK Muslera tried to punched the fierce shot, saw the ball deflected from his hand and trickled past him to make it 2-0 for France.
France will now play against the winner of Brazil or Belgium in the semi-final scheduled to be held on July 10 at Saint Petersburg stadium.
Earlier, Uruguay beat Portugal by 2-1 goals while France beat Argentina by 4-3 goals in their respective round of sixteen matches to book their places for the quarterfinals.
