Govt. can tackle flood situation: Ranga

RANGPUR, July 6, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP, here today said the government has all kinds of preparations to face any flood situation and stand beside the flood- and erosion- hit people.

“If water level of the Teesta continues to rise further, we have adequate preparations to face the possible situation. The government has put special allocation ready to this end,” he said.

Ranga said this while visiting the river erosion prone and flood-prone low-lying areas of Kolkond and Laksmitari unions and other areas by the Teesta riverside under Gangachara upazila by boat to inquire about the local people.

He also visited Char Shankardaho area, Puraton Sankardaho Government Primary School and observed a bridge and ongoing road safety works there.

Talking to the local people, Ranga said that he heard about the flood-like situation and visited several places in Gangachara upazila.

“We are also trying to straighten the water-flow of the Teesta at places to damage of the flood control embankments for saving houses and properties of the riverside villages in the upazila,” Ranga said.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Enamul Kabir, Jatiya Party’s Gangachara unit President Shamsul Islam, Jatiya Party leader Alhaj Abdur Razzaque, Mominul Islam Ripon and Water Development Board officials accompanied him during the visits.
