Foreigners keen to join ‘Digital World-2017’ in Dhaka in Dec

DHAKA, Sept 12, 2017 (BSS) – The government has urged foreign diplomats to help ensure participation of ministers concerned and renowned IT firms of their respective countries in the upcoming “Digital World-2017”.

The request was made on Monday night at a function, titled “Ambassadors Night”, at the State Guest House “Padma”, where ambassadors, high commissioners and charge d’affaires of 17 countries, stationed in Bangladesh, took part, said a press release.

State Mister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam talked about the importance of coordinated efforts to face the new challenges and threats of digital transformation across the globe and the importance of arranging the ‘Digital World 2017′.

“The Digital World is one such platform where a ministerial conference is being planned to bring the countries together to discuss avenues of cooperation and address challenges in a concentrated manner,” he said.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in his speech, stated the achievements of Bangladesh towards materialization of Digital Bangladesh.

“In Digital World 2017, we will showcase our capacity and achievements in all those areas which are being considered as pillars of Digital Bangladesh. I cordially invite you to the event to have a glimpse of Digital Bangladesh. I also encourage participation of tech-companies from your respective countries in this mega event,” he said.

Taking part in the open discussion, the foreign diplomats highly praised Bangladesh’s enormous success in ICT sector within a short span of time under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed their countries’ keen interest to participate in the coming Digital World 2017.

They expressed their eagerness to invest in Bangladesh’s very prospective ICT sector, being patronized the government.

They also assured Bangladesh of extending all out support for ensuring participation of the ministers concerned and IT personnel and farms of their respective countries in the upcoming Digital World 2017.

The diplomats included the Ambassador of Norway Sidsel Bleken, Ambassador of Bhutan Sonam Tobden Rabgye, Ambassador of Philippines Vicente Vivenco T. Bandillo, Ambassador of Republic of Korea AHN Seong-doo, US Charge d’ affairs (CDA) Eduardo Garcia, Charge d’ affairs of delegation of the European Union Konstantinos Vardakis and Deputy Head of Mission of the Netherlands Jeroen Steeghs, were present on the occasion.

From Bangladesh side, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Md Shahidul Haque, Secretary of ICT Division Subir Kishore Chowdhury, Policy Adviser of A2i of Prime Minister’s Office Anir Chowdhury and President of BASIS Mostafa Jabbar spoke at the function. Other top officials from ministry of Foreign Affairs and ICT Division and industry leaders were present on the occasion.

“Digital World-2017”, a four-day event, is the biggest ever ICT exposition of Bangladesh. It would begin in the capital in December with the participation of high- profile tech personalities from home and abroad, renowned IT firms, different public service providing ministries, divisions and offices of the government of Bangladesh.
