2,29,609 tonnes vegetables production likely in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Nov 9, 2020 (BSS) – The Department of Agriculture Extension
(DAE) Narsingdi has fixed a target of producing 2,29,609 tonnes of winter
vegetables from 9983 hectares of land in all the six upazilas of the district
during the current Robi season.

The DAE officials said farmers have already started cultivating early
variety of winter vegetables in their homestead garden and other high lands
from mid-October last.

Considering the demand of vegetables the DAE has fixed a record production
target of winter vegetables, Deputy Director of DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kumar
Dhar told the BSS correspondent at his office yesterday.

He said if the favorable climate condition prevailed the couple of weeks
the above mentioned production would be achieved, he said the DAE, Bangladesh
Agriculture Development Corporation, Bangladesh Agriculture Research
Institute are providing quality seeds, training and other agri-inputs to
farmers for more vegetables cultivation this season.

Besides, the commercial banks are disbursing easy-term agriculture loans
among the farmers.

Various kinds of winter vegetables like Bean, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Cabbage
Radish, Lalshak, Poishak, Palongshak, Gourd, Potato, Cucumber, Tomato,
Coriander etc grow aplenty in Shibpur, Belabo Raipura, Monohardi, Sadar and
Polash upazilas of the district.

Narsingdi districts, a vegetable surplus area, usually supply 30 to 40
percent of its production to the capital and other districts after meeting
the local demand.

BSS correspondent recently visited different upazilas of the district. He
said farmers are working in their vegetable fields with great zeal. Talking
to the BSS Correspondent, farmers Abul Khair, Nur Hossain, Rafikul Islam,
Selim Miah of different villages said they have working hard for more
cultivation of winter vegetables from the last of October with a hope to
getting more winter vegetables this year.
