COVID-19:13,125 infected, 12,160 recovered in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 9, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 13,125 people have so far been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 12,160 recovered in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 13,125 as 21 new patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 12,160 with the healing of seven more infected people on Sunday at the average recovery rate of about 92.65 percent in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 79,865 collected samples of Rangpur division till Sunday, and of them, 13,125 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 16.43 percent.

“The average recovery rate of 92.65 percent of COVID-19 patients is 5.64 times higher than average infection rate of 16.43 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the 13,125 COVID-19 patients currently stands at 3,162 in Rangpur, 693 in Panchagarh, 1,169 in Nilphamari, 903 in Lalmonirhat, 944 in Kurigram, 1,265 in Thakurgaon, 3,752 in Dinajpur and 1,237 in Gaibandha districts.

The 12,160 recovered patients include 2,768 of Rangpur, 644 of Panchagarh, 1,137 of Nilphamari, 883 of Lalmonirhat, 893 of Kurigram, 1,089 of Thakurgaon, 3,564 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 239 as no more death was reported from the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 239 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 86 in Dinajpur, 26 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.82 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 13,125 COVID-19 infected patients, 64 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,160 patients and 239 deaths while 662 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 84,202 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,773 released and 5,429 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the daily infection rate continued declining almost consistently amid rising recovery rate during the three months across Rangpur division.

“To reduce a possible rise in the COVID-19 infection rate during the winter season, common people should wear masks while remaining outside and properly abide by the health directives of the government,” he said.
