Ahsanullah Master’s birth anniversary to be observed on Monday

DHAKA, Nov 7, 2020 (BSS) – Elaborate programmes have been taken in the city and Gazipur to observe the 70th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Shaheed Ahsanullah Master, a Sramik League leader and former ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker, on Monday.

Marking the day, a discussion titled ‘Political challenges in building ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu: Role of public representatives and professionals’ and a doa mahfil will be held at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in the city tomorrow, said a press release here today.

AL Presidium Member and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Colonel (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan will address the discussion as the chief guest while Liberation Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq will address it as the chief speaker.

State Minister for Information Dr Md Murad Hassan will address the discussion as the special guest with State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel in the chair.

Besides, different political and social organizations, including local units of AL, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Ahsanullah Master MP Smriti Parishad, Janakalyan Samiti and Ahsanullah Master’s family, have taken various programmes to observe the birth anniversary at Haidarabad village in Gazipur on Monday (November 9).

The programmes include placing wreaths at his graveyard, offering fateha, holding Qurankhwani and discussion at Haidarabad village on the day. While the day’s events will start with cutting a cake at 12.01 am on Monday at AL office at Tongi Natun Bazar in Gazipur.

Son of Ahsanullah Master, also the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Md Zahid Ahsan Russel urged all to attend the programmes marking the day maintaining health guidelines in face of the global pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19).

On November 9 in 1950, Ahsanullah Master was born at Haidarabad village under Gazipur district.

A lawmaker from Gazipur-2 constituency, he was shot dead when a gang of about 20 gunmen sprayed bullets on a rally of Awami Swechchasebak League at Tongi’s Noagaon M A Majid Miah High School compound near his residence in 2004.

He was a national committee member of AL, chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies, and was involved in various social works.
