Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2017 (BSS) – Stock markets finished the session of the week down as major sectors closing with falling trend at both the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges on Monday.

The falling major sectors were food and allied, insurance, ceramics and textile. A total of 132 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The border DSEX index of DSE closed the day with 16.28 points down at 6,151.21. But the Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 finished the day with 3.45 points up at 1371.69 and with 7.35 points up at 2,208.79.

The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 1,152.34 crore from Sunday’s Taka 1,259.90 crore and the daily trade fell to 32.68 crore shares from 39.43 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 331 securities, prices of 122 securities closed higher against 170 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were SALAMCRST, Kohinoor, PTL, ICBAMCL2ND and ICB. The major losing issues were Meghna Pet, Progressive Life, Monno Ceramics, Standard Ceramics and Dulamia Cotton.

Lanka Bangla Finance topped the turnover list followed by Lafarge Surma Cement, Square Pharma, CMC Kamal and Premier Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 38.52 points down at 19076.65.

At CSE, 273 issues were traded. Of those, 98 closed higher and 130 closed lower when 1.78 crore shares worth Taka 71.13 crore changed hands.
