Saima for ensuring mental health to attain SDGs

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2020 (BSS) – Saima Wazed Hossain, president of Bangladesh National Advisory Committee for Autism and Neurodevelopment Disorders, today said there was no alternative to ensuring mental health care to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She called upon the health professionals and therapists of Bangladesh to ensure the highest level of holistic health care for the physically and mentally challenged people

Saima also sought cooperation of all to ensure mental health services in the country with limited resources.

Saima Wazed Hossain as the chief guest made the call while addressing a webinar titled ‘A day centre for people with mental health needs: a model care of Bangladesh’.
The Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) organised the event, marking the 28th World Mental Day.

In 2018, the CRP with the support of the Kaduri Charitable Foundation set up a day-care centre for mental health at Ganakbari, Savar.

Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Mental Health Helal Uddin Ahmed, Project Coordinator of CRP, Occupational Therapy Day-Care Centre for People with Mental Health Needs Razia Sultana, among others, were present at the event.

CRP founder Valerie Ann Taylor presided over the webinar while Chairman of Neuro Developmental Disability Trust Professor Mohammad Golam Rabbani, Program Manager of Southeast Asia of Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, a Hong-Kong based Trust Rita Banamali, Representative of World Health Organization (WHO) in Bangladesh Dr Bardan Jung RANA were also present.
