Khalid seeks India’s cooperation in preserving archeological sites

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid today sought the cooperation of India in preserving museums and important archeological sites to further enhance the cultural ties between Bangladesh and India.

He came up with the call when the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami paid a courtesy call on him at his office at the secretariat here.

Khalid also underscored the need for increasing cultural exchanges between the two neighboring countries in the days to come.

During the meet, they discussed about various bilateral issues including the friendly relations between the two countries, promotion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s non-violent and peaceful policy in Bangladesh’s struggle for independence, India’s technical assistance in preserving archeological sites including museums and Bangladesh’s economic progress.

Khalid also informed the High Commissioner about the visit of eminent Indian archaeologist Manish Chakraborty to Bangladesh for the preservation of Panam City situated at Sonargaon, Narayanganj district and urged him to expedite the process.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Badrul Arefin and Additional Secretary (Cultural Heritage) Sabiha Parveen were present on the occasion.
