UIP demands arrest of Buddhist monk Sharanangkar

DHAKA, Oct 12, 2020 (BSS) – United Islamic Party (UIP) leaders today demanded arrest of Sharanangkar Thero, a Buddhist monk, for what they said illegally occupying huge forest land and an ancient Hindu crematorium in Falaharia village of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram.

They made the demand from a human chain organised in front of the National Press Club.

UIP Chairman Maulana Md Ismail Hossain termed Sharanangkar as a hypocrite, deceiver, liar and land grabber and alleged that Sharanangkar has not only made objectionable comments about other religions but also occupied the ancient Hindu crematorium in the village Falaharia of Rangunia and 100 acres of forest land there.

“We want his immediate arrest, trail and exemplary punishment for committing such crime,” said the UIP chairman.

UIP joint secretary generals Maulana Mohammad Omar Faruque and Maulana Harun-or-Rashid, UIP leaders Maulana Mohammad Mezbah Uddin, Maulana Mufti Saifullah Sadi, Hafez Maulana Mufti Bashir Uddin, Maulana Mufti Moniruzzaman, Maulana Md Abdur Razzak and Maulana Md Zahirul Islam, among others, spoke at the programme.

They said Sharanangkar is frequently spreading provocative video messages and speeches against other religions to destabilize the communal harmony.
