New Indian HC reaches Dhaka, pays tribute to Bangabandhu

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2020 (BSS) – The newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami reached here today.

After arriving in the capital this afternoon, he visited Bangabandhu memorial museum at Dhanmondi 32 and paid rich tribute to memories of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The new Indian envoy is schedule to present his credential to President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhban on October 8.

Doraiswami has replaced Riva Ganguly Das, who already returned to New Delhi on October 1 to take up her new assignment as Secretary (East) in the Indian External Affairs Ministry after serving as high commissioner in Dhaka for more than one and a half years.

Doraiswami, joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992. Prior to his assignment in Bangladesh, he was serving as additional secretary of External Affairs Ministry of India.

He was earlier India’s ambassador to South Korea and also joint secretary of the Americas division in the external affairs ministry from 2012 till 2014.

Vikram Doraiswami reached here by road through crossing the Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura immigration check post amid the flight suspension due to Coronavirus pandemic.
