BNP’s human chain designed to hide Zia’s misdeeds: Hasan

DHAKA, Oct 4, 2020 (BSS)- Sharply criticising BNP’s way of doing politics, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said their (BNP) human chain programme is nothing but a part of ill attempts to hide the misdeeds of Ziaur Rahman.

“The killers of Bangabandhu gave interviews about Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in the 1975 carnage in different foreign media just after the killing in 1975-76. Even, Majed also clearly told about Zia’s involvement before the execution of his verdict,” he told newsmen at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

The information minister said there are more documents which prove that Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu. “Actually, Ziaur Rahman worked as an ally of Pakistan in the guise of freedom fighter and many documents have proved his involvement in the Bangabandhu killing. I would like to extend my thanks to media to present the documents,” he added.

Earlier, the information minister exchanged views with the teachers of Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI).

Additional secretary of the ministry Jahanara Parvin, BCTI teachers- M Hamid, Gazi Rakayet, Pangkaj Palit, Sajjad Jahir, Shamim Akther, Jahidul Rahim Anjan, Faridur Rahman and Keramat Ali-, among others, were present at the meeting.

Hasan said they (BNP) get angry when it becomes clear like broad day light that Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu and he rehabilitated the killers of Bangabandhu. They (BNP) held human chain to hide the misdeeds of Zia, he added.

Replying to a query about a comment of BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, the information minister said Awami League is the pro-liberation force. BNP destroys the spirit of the Liberation War, he added.

He said Ziaur Rahman tried to destroy all spirits of the Liberation War and independence after capturing power and put the self-declared anti-liberation forces in power. He (Zia) made Shah Azizur Rahman the prime minister who went to the United Nations as a deputy leader of the Pakistani delegation during the independence war and he (Shah Aziz) said that there was no Liberation War and mass killing, rather some Indian spies were creating anarchy, he added.

Ziaur Rahman’s wife Begum Khaleda Zia made ministers the leaders of the anti-liberation force Jamaat-e-Islami that took part in the mass killing mission as the collaborators of the Pakistani occupation force, said Hasan, also AL joint general secretary.

About the meeting of AL Working Committee, the information minister said it was the first meeting of the committee amid the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Decisions were taken to form full-fledged committees where conferences were held. And conferences will be held where no conferences occurred for strengthening the party, he added.

He said organising secretaries and joint secretaries were given the responsibilities and the presidium members have been tasked to take the responsibilities at the divisional-level.

The information minister said the AL leaders and activists have been in the field for the welfare of common people during the prevailing Coronavirus situation as per the directives of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. About 550 AL leaders and workers died due to the virus and hundreds were infected, he said, adding, even, cabinet members and central AL leaders also died due to the virus.

But, Hasan said, similar incidents did not happen to other parties as those parties didn’t jump up like AL in combating the disaster. The Awami League distributed reliefs among 1.25 crore people along with the government, he added.

The information minister said the Awami League will be beside the masses till the end of coronavirus following the directives of the Premier.

He said the ALWC thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a decision was taken at the meeting to stop intruders to have places in the committees of AL.

The information minister said a decision has already been taken to set up a loan fund of Taka one crore to reopen the cinema halls which were shut down, renovate the halls and construct new cinema halls.

Hasan hoped that a notable positive change would take place in the country’s film industry within few years.

Terming the film industry as ‘one of the oldest media in Bangladesh’, the information minister said the industry started its journey at the initiative of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 3rd April in 1957.

He said many cinema halls across the country were closed as the people had stopped going to cinema halls.

“The present government under the supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives including establishing the BCTI to make the industry vibrant. Now we are working to upgrade the BCTI to world standard,” Hasan added.
