10 people with special needs get wheelchairs in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Sept 29, 2020 (BSS) – A total of ten physically challenged people were given wheelchairs for making them self-reliant through removing their mobility problem.

Besides, five other women-headed low-income families were given keys as they got community housing in the city. They have got the scopes of living in brick-built houses overcoming their long-lasting living life in thatched or mud-house.

Already, they moved to their new houses, which they constructed with support from Community Housing Development Fund (CHDF) with supervision of their respective Community Development Committee (CDC) initiated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).

Earlier, each of the beneficiaries having land but not house were given loan worth Taka two lakh for the house building purposes.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton handed over the keys and mobility devices at a function hosted by the RCC at its Green Plaza to mark the celebration of the 74th happy birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

RCC Panel Mayor Shariful Islam, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin, social worker Shahin Akter Rainy, former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Dr Fariha Jaman Orna and city unit general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dablu Sarker, among many others, were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking forward the country by uniting people of all classes and professions.

Under her successful leadership, he said, after achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Bangladesh is moving fast towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He called upon the people to strengthen Sheikh Hasina’s hand in realizing Bangabandhu’s dream, development and progress of the country.

“The day Sheikh Hasina returned to this country in 1981 was a tumultuous day,” he said, adding that the people of the country welcomed her that day as she was standing alone without most of her family members.

But, despite having all difficulties, she has ensured democracy for the people of this country and at the same time established the rule of law, Liton continued.

The premier has turned the country into a digital Bangladesh, he said. He also sought a long life and sound health of the premier along with her furthermore successes.
