‘Journalists can play role in disseminating agricultural innovations’

RAJSHAHI, Sept 27, 2020 (BSS) – Media experts at a discussion mentioned that journalists of both print and electronic media have a vital role towards disseminating information related to agricultural innovation and developments for the sake of boosting the farming outputs.

They viewed that there are scores of innovations and developments and the farmers can contribute a lot towards ensuring food security if they can derive total benefits of those.

The experts came up with the observations while addressing a daylong program styled ‘Knowledge Sharing and Capacity building on Agricultural Media Reporting’ at Master Chef Restaurant in Rajshahi city Saturday.

Farming Future Bangladesh (FFB) hosted the program in association with Cornel Alliance for Science in order to effectively disseminate information on agricultural innovation among the media personnel through improving their understanding.

Building the capacity of media personnel to do proactive and preemptive agriculture reporting in attaining sustainable development goals besides achieving food security was another objective of the training.

Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism in Rajshahi University Satil Siraj Shuvo, Senior Correspondent of NTV Maksudul Hassan, City Editor of Daily Banik Barta Shahanaure Shaid Shahin and Senior Communication Officer of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Abdul Momin conducted the training sessions as resource persons.

FFB Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Arif Hossain welcomed the participants. More than 25 journalists and communication professionals attended the program.

The training provided a more extensive overview of a diverse spectrum of topics related to agriculture biotechnology and agricultural innovation in Bangladesh.

Various other critical issues including the multi-faceted nature of agricultural innovation and agriculture biotechnology were also discussed.

As a whole, the training created an opportunity for the participants to interact with renowned journalists and agricultural scientists to talk about the issues, prospects, challenges and future of innovations for sustainable food security of the country.

Subsequently, it’s expected to generate awareness among the masses to uplift the enabling environment for agricultural innovation and agriculture biotechnology in Bangladesh.
