COVID-19 cases cross 11,800 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 26, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
has crossed 11,800 mark in Rangpur division amid a declining trend in the
daily number of infections in the last three consecutive weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 11,813 with 39 more infections
reported on Friday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 39 were diagnosed on Friday after testing 442 samples at three COVID-
19 laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka while the infection rate of
8.82 percent.

“The daily infection rates were 8.51 percent on Thursday and 8.77 percent
on Wednesday against 12.23 percent on Tuesday in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui
said, adding that the daily infection rates remained below 10 percent during
the last three consecutive days.

The district-wise break-up of the total 11,813 patients now stands at
2,791 in Rangpur, 604 in Panchagarh, 1,042 in Nilphamari, 852 in Lalmonirhat,
893 in Kurigram, 1,114 in Thakurgaon, 3,361 in Dinajpur and 1,156 in
Gaibandha under the division.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,518 with
the recovery of 13 more infected people in the division on Friday.

“The average recovery rate stands at 89.03 percent in Rangpur division,”
Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 10,518 recovered patients include 2,438 of Rangpur, 541 of Panchagarh,
977 of Nilphamari, 780 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 784 of Thakurgaon,
3,163 of Dinajpur and 1,019 of Gaibandha districts.

With no more death reported on Friday. So, the total number of fatalities
remained steady at 212 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the tatal fatalities now stands at 48 in
Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 15 in
Kurigram, 14 each in Gaibandha and Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.79 percent in the
division,” the health official said.

Since the beginning, a total of 67,648 collected samples of Rangpur
division till Friday, and of them, 11,813 were found COVID-19 positive with
an average infection rate of about 17.46 percent.

“Currently, the recovery rate (89.03 percent) of COVID-19 patients is 5.10
times higher than the infection rate (17.46 percent) in the division,” Dr.
Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said
164 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 96 others
released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Since the beginning, a total of 78,854 people of the division were put in
quarantines, and of them, 74,620 released and 4,234 are currently remaining
in home or institutional quarantines.

“Among the total 11,813 COVID-19 patients, 97 are undergoing treatments at
isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,518 patients and
212 deaths while 986 remaining in home isolations,” he said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said
the daily infection rate in the division remained below 10 percent in the
last three consecutive days.

“To maintain the improving trend in the daily number of infections and
prevent spread of COVID-19 in the division, people should properly abide by
the health directives,” Dr. Lyzu added.
