Jamalpur gets 106 tonnes more fish production

JAMALPUR, Sept 24, 2020 (BSS) – After implementation of various programmes by the Fisheries Department here 106.81 tonnes more fish were produced in the fiscal 2019-2020 in the district.

District Fisheries Office sources said with a view to increasing fish production 3099-kilogram fish fries of carp variety worth about TK eight lakh were released in all seven Upazilas of the district.

Carp variety fish like Rui, Katla and Mrigel were released in 518 hectares water bodies including and 92 hectares institutional ponds.

The office said earlier in a survey on the baseline fish production in the water bodies was found 305.19 tonnes.

But after releasing the fish fires the total production in the water body in a year came at 412 tonnes. As a result, 106.81 tonnes additional fish was produced in the year.

Upazila wise fish production is as follows: 23.91 tonnes in 47 hectares water bodies in Jamalpur Sadar, 163 tonnes in 250 hectares in Sarishabari, 45.48 tonnes in 32 hectares in Islampur, 27.17 tonnes in 25 hectares in Melandah, 19.76 tonnes in 14 hectares in Dewanganj, 68.59 tonnes in 54 hectares in Madarganj and 64.09 tonnes in 95 hectares in Bakshiganj.

District Fisheries Officer, Kaisir Mohammad Moinul Hassan said the market value of the fish is about TK one crore 60 lakh.

He said over seven thousand people got benefitted from the additional fish. Fisheries department has been implementing various programme to increase fish production in the district to meet the protein deficiency, he added.
