Plunge extended in stocks

DHAKA, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) – Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), finished today’s trading session extending the losing streak of previous sessions as the risk-averse investors rushed to book quick profit on sector-wise issues following the recent price upsurge.

At DSE, the broad index, DSEX settled at 5012.12 points on Monday with a big loss of 76.74 points or 1.50 percent.

Besides, two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 25.90 points and 15.26 points to settle at 1726.96 points and 1138.11 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 210,880 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 489.00 million securities.

On the other hand, DSE’s turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 9.77 billion from Taka 11.03 billion in the previous session.

Losers took lead over gainers as out of 355 issues traded, 82 securities gained price while 259 declined and 14 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE decreased to Taka 3,795 billion which was Taka 3,839 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were ICB Employees Provident Mutual Fund 1 Scheme 1, SEML IBBL Shariah Fund, ICB AMCL 3rd NRB Mutual Fund, Van Guard AML Rupali Bank Balanced Fund, Miracle Industries, First Bangladesh Fixed Income Fund, SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund, CAPM IBBL Islamic Mutual Fund, Rupali Insurance and Exim Bank First Mutual Fund.

Delta Brac Housing topped the turnover chart followed by Beximco Limited, Rupali Life Insurance, Beximco Pharma, Purabi General Insurance, Brac Bank, BD Finance, Nitol Insurance, Square Pharma and BSCCL.

The top 10 losers were Pravati Insurance, Peoples Insurance, Republic Insurance, Agrani Insurance, Shyampur Sugar Mill, Janata Insurance, Nitol Insurance, Dhaka Insurance, Global Insurance and Asia Insurance.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed trade in red extending the losing streak of previous sessions.

CSCX and CASPI declined by 126.10 points and 209.57 points to stand at 8597.43 points and 14319.77 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 20,659,455 share and mutual funds of 286 companies were traded, of which 85 issues advanced while 184 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged.
