DHAKA, Sept 20, 2020 (BSS) – Inspired by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) has always played an important role in protecting the country’s airspace as well as serving the nation since its inception.

In this regard, Bangladesh Air Force has undertaken a reforestation program in remote coastal areas of the country and Chattogram hill tracts in co-ordination with Forest Department, said an ISPR press release today.

Under the reforestation program, seed balls were spread in the coastal areas of the country from 20th Sep – 21st Sep by throwing those from the sky by BAF helicopters.

Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat provided necessary guidance to carry out the reforestation program, it added.

Seeds have been spread from the sky by BAF helicopters in remote coastal areas for the first time in Bangladesh.

In this regard, on 3rd September 2020, the necessary seeds were collected from Patuakhali and processed as seed balls at Air Headquarters.

The processed seed balls were spread from the sky by 02 X MI series helicopters to the coastal areas of Domar Char, Noakhali. Mentionable that the places selected for reforestation are inaccessible and unsuitable for road travel. For these reason seed balls were spread in these areas by BAF helicopters, the release said.

The reforestation program conducted by Bangladesh Air Force will play an important role in protecting the natural environment of Bangladesh to reduce sea level rise and deforestation due to greenhouse effect and reduction of natural disaster damages.

Forests created by this reforestation program will become a lifeline for the people living in the coastal areas in the future, the release said.
