DHAKA, Sept 20, 2020 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today upheld High Court orders that stayed proceedings of four cases against Begum Khaleda Zia.

A three-member apex court virtual bench headed by Justice Muhammad Imman Ali passed the order after holding hearing on state appeals against the High Court orders.

Of the four cases, three were filed with the capital’s Darus Salam Police Station for committing subversive activities during BNP-Jamaat’s blockade programme in 2015. The other case was filed for sedition for her statement regarding the number of martyrs in the War of Liberation.

The High Court in 2017 stayed the proceedings of three subversion cases, allowing an appeal of the BNP chief. The High Court in the same year stayed proceedings of the sedition case also.

Addition Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir argued for the state plea against the High Court orders, while Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon stood for the BNP leader.
