DNCC removes over 600 illegal billboards

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2020 (BSS) – Around 620 illegal billboards and signboards were removed from the Gulshan, Banani, and Pragati Sarani area of the city on Wednesday through separate eviction drives under the supervision of the executive magistrates of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Besides, these signboards and other goods were sold through spot auction for Taka 1 lakh 79 thousand and 500. In addition, Taka 96,000 were realized as fine from vendors for illegally occupying the footpaths and roads, not having trade licenses and other offences, said a press release.

About 256 illegal signboards, billboards, banners, panaflexes were removed from Gulshan Avenue during the drive led by Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Magistrate Abdul Hamid Miah. Three companies were fined a total of Tk 30,000 at that time. Also, 70 illegally parked motorcycles were removed and the roads were opened to the public.

Zone-7 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed conducted the other eviction drive at Banani Road No. 11. More than 200 signboards and billboards were removed at that time. These goods were sold at an immediate auction for Taka 60,000. Besides, an organization was fined Taka 10,000 for illegally occupying roads and sidewalks and obstructing the movement of people.

A separate drive was carried out by Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Sajia Afrin at Shahjadpur of Pragati Sarani where a total of 163 illegal signboards and billboards were removed. The removed signboards and billboards were sold at auction for Tk79,500. Besides, four companies were fined Tk57,000 for occupying sidewalks and roads and not having trade licenses.
