T-Aman target exceeds in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Sep 16, 2020 (BSS) – Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) cultivation in the district has exceeded the target expecting good yield this Kharip-2 season.

Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Md Aminul Islam said some farmers are still planting Aman of local varieties like Swarna-5, Gainja and Haloi in low land after receding water to recover the losses, suffered in the recent floods.

DAE office sources said the target of T-Aman cultivation was fixed on 106300 hectares of land with a production target of 293426 tones rice.

But the farmers planted T-Aman paddy on 108430 hectares of land which is 2130 hectares higher than the target.

According to DAE office T-Aman cultivated on 30300 hectares in Jamalpur Sadar, 15100 hectares in Sarishabari, 16500 hectares in Melandah, 9830 hectares in Islampur, 8645 hectares in Dewanganj, 14715 hectares in Madarganj and 13340 hectares in Bakshiganj Upazila.

Deputy Director, Md Aminul Islam said various incentives on the crop was also provided among small and marginal farmers to increase T-Aman cultivation.

“If the weather remains conducive the farmers will get bumper yield of Aman paddy this year, he added.
