DHAKA, Sept 15, 2020 (BSS) – The jobless jute mill workers will get jobs after re-opening of 25 state-owned jute mills as the government is taking necessary measures to build partnership models for smooth functioning of jute mills, State Minister for Labour and Employment Munnujan Sufian said today.
“All jobless workers, who have lost their employment opportunities after shutdown of 25 state-owned jute mills, will get jobs after resumption of these mills”, she said at the inaugural function of payment of dues of the jobless jute mill workers at Demra in the city.
Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastigir Gazi addressed the function as the chief guest with Textile and Jute Secretary M Lokman Hossen in the chair.
Earlier, the government decided to shutdown all the state-run jute mills considering its huge production losses. Sufian said that these mills will be reopened after further refurbishment with modern technologies under different types of ventures – PPP, G2G, joint venture or lease mode.
Following these jute mills reopening, some 25,000 jobless workers will get jobs again, she said while handing over savings certificates among 30 workers of the Karim Jute Mill.
The government is paying Taka 251.58 crore among nearly 5,000 jute mill workers, where Taka 192 crore for 1759 terminated workers, Taka 34.37 crore for 612 retired workers and the rest Taka 25.21 crore will be given to 2625 transfer workers.
Besides, fifty percent dues of the 25 state-owned jute mill workers will be transferred to their respective bank accounts and the rest of the amount will be paid in the form of savings certificate.
