PANCHAGARH, Sept 15, 2020(BSS)- Arum -lobe more known as kachur loti cultivation is gaining popularity among the many farmers in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district this year.
The farmers of the district are hugely benefited by arum -lobe cultivation which is less expensive but money-spinning and many farmers are now keen to cultivate loti , a byproduct and one of the delicious vegetables.
Ruhul Amin, a farmer of Kaliganj village in Debiganj upazila said he had cultivated arum -lobe on one bigha of land and earned TK 20,000 by selling the product.
Per kg arum -lobe (loti) is being sold at TK 25 to 30 in whole sale market but the same is much higher in the retail market .
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of Debiganj Humaun Kader said, farmers started cultivation of Arum on March and its lobe comes to the market in the month of May and is available in next three to four months.
Agriculture Extension Department of Debiganj arranged a demonstration plot at Kaliganj village under Dandapal union under Kandal crops project .
Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Samim Ikbal said, arum -lobe is a nutritious vegetable with huge has calcium and the farmers are being encouraged for massive cultivation of the arum lobe by raising awareness.
