DHAKA, Sep 3, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities today issued a separate notice on Wednesday’s press release imposing a ban on Rag Day celebration on the university campus being misinterpreted.
Expressing apology, the university authorities said the information about the ban on Rag-Day was inadvertently misrepresented, a DU press release said.
The DU Academic Council asked the authorities to be vigilant to ensure that no inhumane, disrespectful, or undisciplined behaviors take place on campus or in hostels in the name of Rag Day celebration.
The release also said that policies should be formulated for organizing ceremonies, festivals and colorful rallies for completing education, graduation festivals and a committee has been formed in this regard.
Another committee was also formed with Pro vice-chancellor (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad as convener, Proctor as secretary and deans of the faculties of arts, biology and business studies as members, to develop the policies.
Describing it as ‘unethical and inhuman’ practice, DU authorities imposed a ban on Rag Day celebration on the campus on Wednesday following a virtual meeting of the Academic Council of the university.
Policies need to be formulated to organize events, festivals or rallies for celebrating “education completion” or graduation, the Academic Council said.
