Bangabandhu’s love for farmers, workers was genuine: Razzaque

DHAKA, Aug 29, 2020 (BSS) – Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman throughout his whole political life had worked
intensively to develop the country’s agriculture and welfare of the
peasants as his love for the poor people-farmers-workers was genuine.

Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque told a virtual
discussion on “Bangabandhu’s Philosophy and Economic Base of
Bangladesh” marking the 45th martyrdom year of Bangabandhu.

Recalling the immense contribution of Bangabandhu to agriculture, he
said Bangabandhu gave utmost priority to the advancement of
agriculture of the country in 1954 Juktafront election.

Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association organized the
discussion today. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on
Commerce and former minister Tofail Ahmed was present as the chief
guest.

Razzaque stressed on the agri-revolution for the development of
country’s agricultural sector, cherished by the country’s founding
father.

“Our farmers are mostly miserable and oppressed and our effort is to
change their fate,” Razzaque quoted a speech of Bangabandhu on March
26 in 1972, as saying.

Noting that agriculture played a significant role for overall
development of county’s economy, the minister said agricultural
development accelerated the development of the country and utmost
priority should be given on it.

Under the farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the
minister mentioned that the government has given importance to
agriculture soon after assuming the office and “as a result we have
tremendously improved in all sectors, including agriculture.”

Former minister Tofail Ahmed said Bangabandhu’s love was for the
people and the soil of Bangla.

He quoted Bangabandhu as saying, “If I have the soil of Bangla and
its people, one day I will transform the Bangla into a prosperous and
developed one.”

The ongoing development of the country was on the base of
Bangabandhu’s thoughts and the compassion that Bangabandhu had for the
farmers cannot be imagined, he added.

Association’s president and former senior secretary Sazzadul Hasan
presided over the virtual meeting.

Noted historian and writer Prof Muntasir Mamun, Bangladesh
Agricultural University’s emeritus Prof Dr M A Sattar Mandol,
association’s secretary general Prof Dr Mohammad Mizanul Haque Kazol
