Govt working for protecting environment: minister

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2020 (BSS) – Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said the government is working to ensure a livable environment for the country’s people.

“Although various works are halted or slowed down amid the coronavirus pandemic, the projects of the Department of Environment and Forest Department are being carried out smoothly,” he told a virtual meeting from his official residence here.

The meeting was arranged to review the monthly implementation progress of ADP projects of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, a ministry press release said.

Shahab Uddin said the projects of the Department of Environment (DoE) and the Forest Department should continue to keep the environment clean during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Calling upon the project directors to maintain quality in project implementation, he said project works should start in full-swing from the beginning of the financial year to achieve satisfactory progress in the project.

The minister urged all to work together to help the government check environmental pollution in the country.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, Secretary of the ministry Ziaul Hasan, Additional Secretary (Environment) Mahmud Hasan, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Mizanul Haque Chowdhury and DoE Director General Dr AKM Rafiq Ahmed, Chief Conservator of Forests (Current Duty) Md Amir Hossain Chowdhury and heads of different agencies joined the meeting.
