Bangamata’s inspiration helped Bangabandhu becoming great hero: Matia

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the great hero of the liberation struggle with the inspiration of his wife Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

“Bangamata was very sincere. When Bangabandhu was in jail, Bangamata helped the leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and Chhatra League. Bangamata operated the party along with her family after Bangabandhu was taken to jail,” she told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club here.

Bangamata Parishad organised the discussion on the occasion of the 90th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

Bangamata consumed the sorrow of Bangabandhu instead of enjoying happiness, Matia said, adding she (Bangamata) could have stayed in Bangabhaban if she wanted, but she did not do so.

She helped Bangabandhu with her savings which she saved for long days, the AL presidium member said, adding even Bangamata rejected to live without Bangabandhu standing before the death.

Addressing the discussion as the special guest, Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could become Bangabandhu as Bangamata gave love and inspiration to him selflessly.

“We never hear such selfless story of wife of any world leader. Bangamata is a role model for women in the world,” he added.

Bangamata’s name will remain alive with Bangabandhu as long as Bangladesh exists, Shamim said.

Bangamata Parishad Advisor Nazmul Haque, General Secretary M Anisur Rahman and Awami Leaders MA Karim and Md Shafiuddin addressed the discussion, among others.
