Bangamata contributed to all struggles of nation: Dr Hasan

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2020 (BSS) – Paying rich tribute to Bangamata,
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Bangamata Sheikh
Fazilatunnesa Mujib followed Bangabandhu like a shadow till his death
and gave advices to him (Bangabandhu).

“Bangamata had made immense contribution to all struggles and
successes of the Bangalee nation . . . She (Bangamata) had had a
pivotal role in every movements and struggles of the nation without
disclosing her under the leadership of Bangabandhu,” he added.

“Today is the birthday of such a glorified woman, who was not only
the wife of Bangabandhu, not only the mother of Prime Minister sheikh
Hasina, who had made immense contribution to all struggles and
movements of the nation staying behind the scene silently under the
leadership of Bangabandhu.”

“Today is her birthday who never disclosed her role to the people
played towards achieving independence — Bangabandhu’s dream with the
people,” he said.

Hasan stated this while addressing a meeting at the auditorium of
Awami League Central Office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Krishak League (KL) organized the meeting and doa mahfil marking
the 90th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib
with its President Samir Chanda in the chair.

Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy
Nandi addressed the meeting as special guest while KL General
Secretary Umme Kulsum Smriti, MP, conducted it.

Hasan said many leaders had changed their minds, retreated and
joined with the power during the long struggle of independence and
they had failed to give proper decision to Bangabandhu. But, at that
time, Bangamata gave her best advices to Bangabandhu, he added.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said, took many important
decisions in consultation with Fazilatunnesa Mujib. “I think, it was
possible for Bangabandhu to fight for the nation by facing death
repeatedly because of having courageous, patient and honest advisor
wife like Bangamata,” he added.

The minister said Bangamata considered the whole country as her
family. When Bangabandhu was in jail, she ran her family as well as
the party,” said Hasan also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said when Bangabandhu was assassinated in 1975, the country’s
GDP growth was 7.4 percent. “Even after 40 years of his assassination,
we could not exceed that growth rate. Bangladesh exceeded 7.4 percent
GDP growth in fiscal 2016-17 under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s
daughter Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

The minister said there were additional 10,000 metric ton food
grains in 1975. Just after returning home after the independence of
the country, Bangabandhu devoted himself to building the nation but
“the architect of independent Bangladesh could not materialise his
dream”.

Had Bangabandhu been alive, Bangladesh would have become a
developed nation like Singapore, South Korea and Malaysia many years
ago, he said.

Hasan said Bangladesh is now moving ahead indomitably under the
leadership Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to materialise the dream of
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The rate of
GDP is highest in the world in the last eleven-and-a- half-years, he
added.

He also said not a single people died from starvation in the
prevailing Coronavirus situation. The death rate among the COVID-19
infected people is also lower than other countries in the world, he
added.

Urging BNP to refrain from criticism on TVs and online, Hasan said,
“I would like to all to remain beside the countrymen during the crisis
period.”

Later, the minister took part in the doa mahfil.
