159 more tests positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 159 more people have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division.

Health officials said 159 new cases were detected after testing samples of 470 suspected patients from all eight districts in the division at the two laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur today.

Of them, 55 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city today.

“The new 55 patients include 26 of Rangpur, 11 each of Lalmonirhat and Kurigram and seven of Gaibandha districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told tonight.

On the other hand, the highest number of 104 more new patients was reported in a day today after diagnosing 282 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur district town.

“The 104 new COVID-19 patients include 55 of Dinajpur, 28 of Thakurgaon, 13 of Panchagarh and eight of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS after receiving the test results at 9:40 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, focal person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 7,045 as 159 new cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 7,045 patients now stands at 1,818 in Rangpur, 374 in Panchagarh, 688 in Nilphamari, 447 in Lalmonirhat, 564 in Kurigram, 465 in Thakurgaon, 1,984 in Dinajpur and 705 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
